SDA Church Mwangaza was organized from Kayole SDA Church on 31st October 1998 by the Central Kenya Conference through Pastor Wilson Githinji. The first Pastor was Peter Njenga, with Elder Stephen Mutai being the first elder assisted by Eelder Isaac Nyakeri. Fred Opondo and Mary K. Omandi formed the nucleus of the newly organized Mwangaza Church.
The initial membership then, stood at 25 and they started by worshiping at Kayole Social Hall for a period of one year. Later on, by God’s grace, the land where the church currently stands was acquired and members moved there. The first Sub-District Camp Meeting was held on Mwangaza Church ground in the month of August 2000, and it included Kayole, Tumaini, Soweto and Mwangaza churches.
Mwangaza SDA church is a Christian congregation based in Nairobi Kenya, who worship God “in Truth and Spirit” and who value family fellowship. It started on 15th, March 1997 as a Sabbath School of the SDA Church Kayole, Central Kenya Conference. It was officially organized on 31st, October 1998 as a main church with 44 members; an event officiated by Pastor Wilson Githinji; with the theme song NZK 195. At the time of its establishment, worship services were being conducted at the Kayole II Social Hall in Kayole until the year 1999 when the church acquired the piece of land on which it is currently located where a temporary structure was constructed. Prior to constructing the temporary structure, church Board meetings were being held in a member’s house in Komarock estate. In the year 2007 the foundation of building a permanent structure was laid under the leadership of, Pastor Ebrahim Muraya. The construction of a permanent church structure is in progress.
The nucleus of the Mwangaza church composed of 45 members led by Peter Njenga as the first pastor, with Elder Stephen Mutai as the first head elder and Isaac Nyakeri, as the second elder.
Elder Fred Kubai Opondo, Eld. Isaac Nyakeri and Mary K. Omandi are credited as the key pillars of the newly organized church. The first 45 members were:

Over the years Mwangaza Church has register a steady growth in its membership, that currently stands at about 1750 members in the church membership register. Weekly Sabbath attendance averages about 2500 worshippers. Mwangaza church has been able to open two Sabbath Schools, Thawabu and Sunshine, that have since grown to be independent main churches. Mwangaza, Dhawabu, Soweto and Sunshine churches form Mwangaza District.
